Lynch stellar over seven innings

The Celtics opened up conference play with a 5-1 win over the Warrensburg Tigers. Senior Mike Lynch was dominant over seven innings earning the complete game win, allowing just three hits while only throwing an incredible 67 pitches. The game got off to an amazing start with two plays at the plate to end both the top and bottom of the first inning. After three scoreless innings the Celtics finally broke things open in the top of the third. Chuck Preston and Joey Tucker started off the inning reaching base on a walk and single, respectively. They reached second and third on a passed ball, then Travis Peter drove both runners in on a two out single. Peter later drove in Preston again with another two out single in the top of the 7th for an insurance run. Preston reached base three out of his four plate appearances scoring two times. Senior Vince Saviano, Junior Travis Peter, and Freshman Jared Ginter each both contributed with two hits.

JV

After dominating the first six innings, the JV managed to blow their five run lead in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore pitcher Logan Halil was dominant over six innings, allowing only two runs with 11 strikeouts. Caleb Schmidt relieved Halil in the seventh without giving up a hit. However, the defense behind him could not make the necessary plays and squandered the five run lead. Warrensburg scored five runs on no hits in the bottom of the seventh to force a tie game. An extra inning was played, but neither team was capable of scoring a run. The JV team looks to pick up their first victory of the season vs. Center tonight.
