“…Made of real bits of Panther, so you know they're good!” - Anchorman
The Celtic Baseball team defeated the Oak Grove Panthers in an onslaught of hitting on Tuesday night by the score of 11-5. In the top of the first, Junior third baseman Aaron Mitchell pounded out a home run to give the Celtics an early 2-0 lead. After a rough first inning, the Celtics found themselves in a hole 5-2. However, in the top of the third the Celtics came to the plate looking for a new ballgame. Trailing 5-3 at this point, the Celtics rallied to take a 6-5 lead on four consecutive singles by Mitchell, Chuck Preston, Joey Tucker and Jake Slocum. After that they did not look back. Adding insurance runs in the top of the fourth was a two run Home Run by shortstop Aaron Stubblefield. Senior Vince Saviano relieved pitcher Jake Slocum in the second inning and provided stellar pitching with four shutout innings to preserve the win. Saviano also recorded six strikeouts over those four innings. The Celtics take on Ft. Osage at 3 pm this afternoon and look to advance to the championship round on Thursday.
